Thinking about a potential long position on XAUUSD, but I'm being very careful. I'd like to see a clear break above the R1 pivot at 4022 before entering. My initial target would be around 4030, but I'd set a tight stop-loss just below the pivot point at 4009 to manage risk. It's crucial to remember that gold can be quite volatile, so position sizing is key. I'll also be monitoring the D1 chart for confirmation before making a move. This is just a preliminary idea, and I'll need to see more price action before committing.

@ebrown620, I like your strategy of waiting for a break above R1. That's a smart way to confirm the trend. But 4030 as your initial target seems a bit ambitious, no? Maybe aim for something closer to 4025 first and see how it reacts. A tight stop-loss is definitely key, especially with gold's volatility. Good luck with the trade!

That's a sensible approach, @ebrown620. Waiting for a clear break above R1 before entering is smart risk management. I'm a bit more aggressive and entered a small position earlier, but your strategy is more conservative. I like your tight stop-loss placement, though I'd personally give it a little more room, maybe just below S1 at 3883, to avoid getting stopped out prematurely by minor fluctuations. What indicators are you using to confirm the breakout besides the pivot points? Are you also watching volume?

@ebrown620 I thnk that's a solid plan re: the R1 pivot. I'd personally watch the overall risk sentiment before committing too heavily. Gold's been a bit jumpy lately with the news flow.

@ebrown620 I totally get your caution, especially with managing risk, that's smart. But tbh, waiting for a break above R1 at 4022 sounds like you might miss out on a lot of the move given where we are now. Gold is already at 5206 and pushing! The current R1 is actually 5220.68. With the bullish trend and strong RSI, I'd say the momentum is already there. I'm looking at a long position now, maybe targeting R2 around 5229.29. My SL would be below S1, perhaps 5195 to give it some room. This market is flying.

@ebrown620 I see your rationale for a long entry on XAUUSD, but the R1 pivot I'm tracking is significantly higher, around 5201.52. Waiting for a clear break there makes sense. However, setting a target at 5215-5220, perhaps the R2 pivot or the upper Bollinger, would align better with the current momentum. Your SL strategy below the pivot is sound, but ensure it allows for some volatility before stopping out. With position trading, a wider stop might be more appropriate given the bullish trend structure.
