For me, risk management is everything. You absolutely must have a stop loss on every single trade, no exceptions. I also never risk more than 1% of my account on a single trade. It sounds small, but over time it prevents catastrophic losses. Preserve capital first, always.

I totally agree with @sharpRidge9. Risk management is so important, especially when you're starting out. I always set my stop loss right away after entering a trade. I'm still learning but I know that's one thing I have to get right to not blow up my account.
