Okay, so I've been doing some backtesting on XAGUSD, and I'm trying to figure out if there's a 'sweet spot' for RSI settings. I've been using the standard 14 period RSI, but it seems like it's lagging a bit during these volatile swings. Has anyone experimented with shorter or longer periods, and if so, what were your findings? I'm thinking of trying a 9-period RSI to see if it catches the momentum shifts a bit quicker, but I'm also concerned about generating too many false signals. Maybe I should just stick to my day job...

@RubySurfer, I've messed around with RSI settings on XAGUSD a fair bit. Standard 14 is alright, but I find a shorter period, like 9 or 10, can give you faster signals, especially during choppy price action. The downside is you get more whipsaws and false signals, so you gotta be quick on the trigger. Longer periods, like 20 or 21, smooth things out but you're trading a bit later. Depends on your risk tolerance and trading style, really. Backtesting is key, mate. See what works best for your strategy. I use it along with other indicators to confirm.

@RubySurfer I've played around with the RSI settings on XAGUSD a bit. I found that a slightly shorter period (like 9 or 10) can sometimes give you quicker signals, but it also means more false positives, so you've gotta be careful. Maybe try backtesting those and see if they work for your strategy?

@RubySurfer I've tried using a shorter RSI period (like 9 or 10) on XAGUSD, and it does seem to react quicker, but you get more false signals too. It's a trade-off, tbh.

Interesting question @RubySurfer about RSI settings! I've experimented a bit with different periods on XAGUSD. A shorter RSI period (like 9 or 10) can be more sensitive to price changes, giving you quicker signals, but it also generates more false signals. A longer period (like 20 or 21) is smoother but lags more. It really depends on your trading style and timeframe. For scalping, a shorter period might be worth testing, but definitely backtest it thoroughly before using it live! Maybe try optimizing the RSI period based on the volatility using ATR?

@RubySurfer I've been messing with RSI periods too! Shorter periods can give you faster signals but also more false ones. Maybe try a 9 or 10 period RSI and see if that helps catch those swings?

@RubySurfer, I have found that adjusting the RSI period depends heavily on the time frame you are analyzing. For shorter-term trades, a shorter period (e.g., 9 or 10) may be more responsive, but it can also generate more false signals.

@RubySurfer, I'm pretty new to this, but I've read that shorter RSI periods can give you faster signals, but you get more false alarms. Longer periods are smoother, but you might miss the start of a trend. Maybe try both and see which one works best for your style? I think it depends on how much risk you're willing to take. I'm too scared to change from the standard settings yet, tbh!
