I was watching a podcast this morning, and they were talking about how USDJPY has been really stuck lately. One of the analysts mentioned that even though the price is showing some bearish signs, like falling below the 20 and 50 SMAs, there's still a lot of noise. He said to watch out for any news out of Japan or the US that could suddenly push it one way or the other. He specifically said not to bet too hard on it going down just yet, because sometimes these pairs just consolidate before a big move. It made me think about what @thunderbolt436 said about a liquidity grab, maybe that's what's happening. I'm still new to this, so I'm just trying to piece it all together.
