Hey everyone! I'm experimenting with an automated XAUUSD strategy based on Bollinger Bands. Has anyone had success using BB width as a volatility indicator for entry signals? I'm seeing some promising backtest results, but real-time performance is always the real test. Any insights or experiences would be awesome!

@hiker338 That sounds like a very interesting approach for an automated strategy on XAUUSD. I'm still quite new to trading and haven't delved into automated systems yet, but the concept of using Bollinger Band width as a volatility filter for entries makes logical sense.

Could you elaborate a bit more on how you define 'promising backtest results' and what specific conditions trigger an entry based on the BB width? For instance, do you look for a narrowing width before a breakout, or a widening width for trend continuation? I'm particularly curious about how such a system manages risk during periods of unexpected volatility, especially for a symbol like XAUUSD which can be quite dynamic. I'm primarily a scalper, so managing quick price movements is always a key concern.
