He further emphasized the unprecedented nature of the current build-out, noting, "We have never seen anything of this magnitude before." Australia has now surpassed 2 GWh of battery storage per million people, a milestone attributed to what Dixon described as an "unprecedented build-out."
Rooftop solar power is exceptionally popular, with approximately four million Australian homes generating their own electricity from rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems, granting the nation the highest rooftop PV penetration globally. In the realm of utility solar power, 3.3 GW of new generation capacity was commissioned in 2025. This included 18 utility-scale projects, collectively adding 2 GW and attracting $2.7 billion in investment. Furthermore, seven wind projects, totaling 1.4 GW, received government approval, a significant increase compared to the 775 MW commissioned in 2024.

In March, the government gave its endorsement to 16 projects in New South Wales (NSW), valued at $22.1 billion, through its newly established Investment Delivery Authority (IDA). The IDA's expedited assessment process for its inaugural funding round saw the approval of 14 energy projects worth $24 billion. These projects span pumped hydro storage, battery storage systems, wind farms, solar PV plants, and gas infrastructure, underscoring a comprehensive approach to energy security and transition. The IDA framework is designed to accelerate future investment activities, signaling a clear pathway for continued development.
