And for the bots, it's crucial to have a 'fear index' of sorts, maybe tied to the S&P 500 or even the VIX if we were trading that. If risk appetite is totally gone, better to just let them chill. Saves capital for when the real opportunities show up. Plus, less debugging at 3 AM!
