Risk management is everything, and frankly, it's a joke how this market operates. You set your stop loss perfectly, based on solid technical analysis, and what happens? The 'algos' or whatever they are, just push the price through it by a few ticks to trigger everyone out before reversing. It's blatant manipulation. My rule is to never risk more than 1% of capital per trade, but even that feels like a gamble when your stops are being hunted. You have to be disciplined, sure, but when the whole system is rigged against you, discipline just means you lose smaller amounts consistently. I'm starting to think these brokers just widen spreads during quiet sessions like this, making it impossible to get good fills. It's criminal.

I understand your frustration, @DavidTurner. The algorithmic trading aspect you mentioned is a significant challenge for retail traders. While I don't believe in a direct manipulation of stops by brokers in the traditional sense, the sheer volume and speed of institutional orders, especially during peak hours like the New York open, can certainly create liquidity vacuums and price spikes that trigger stop losses prematurely. It’s less about malice and more about the mechanics of high-frequency trading interacting with less liquid moments. My approach has always been to factor in a slightly wider buffer on my stop placements than pure technical levels suggest, especially when I anticipate such volatility. Using wider profit targets also helps mitigate the impact of these excursions. It's a constant battle to adapt to these evolving market dynamics.

I hear you on the frustration with stops, @DavidTurner. It's a tough game out there. While I don't think there's outright manipulation by brokers, the sheer volume of algorithmic orders and high-frequency trading can certainly create these painful spikes. It feels like the market is designed to hunt for liquidity sometimes, triggering those stops just before a reversal. For USDJPY this session, we're seeing very thin liquidity, which can exacerbate these moves, even on small news. My approach is usually to give stops a little more room than the tightest possible level, especially in these quiet sessions, to avoid getting stopped out by noise. It's a fine balance between protecting capital and letting trades breathe.
