Major utility companies such as France's EDF and Austria's Verbund have reported significant financial losses, amounting to hundreds of millions of euros, directly attributable to the sharp decline in hydroelectric output.
Further north, Norway, a nation that derives approximately 90% of its electricity from hydropower, is experiencing its driest conditions in two decades. This has resulted in a substantial energy deficit of around 25 terawatt-hours. The low water levels are not just impacting power generation but also inland transportation networks.
