I'm relatively new to this, but looking at GBPUSD, is it possible the recent dip below 1.3550 might be a false breakout? I've read about those. How can one confirm if it's a genuine breakout versus something temporary? I'm trying to learn more about how to interpret these price movements with more certainty.

@ocampbell703 False breakouts can be tricky! Check for volume confirmation. A genuine breakout usually has higher volume. Also, look at the candle body size. A strong break will have a large body.

@ocampbell703, that's a very good question about false breakouts. It's something that catches many traders out, especially when starting. Generally, I look for confirmation from multiple indicators before confirming a breakout. For example, a break below 1.3550 on GBPUSD should ideally be accompanied by increased volume and a corresponding move in the RSI towards oversold conditions. Also, check higher timeframes like H4 or D1 to see if the breakout aligns with the overall trend. If it's just a temporary dip on lower timeframes without these confirmations, it's more likely a false breakout. It's all about layering the evidence to increase the probability.
